Notes A plaque at the site says: "St. Joseph-de-la-Rive, Quebec ~ Established in 1946, this shipyard is one of a very few such facilities of its period to retain equipment used in the repair and wintering activities assocaited with small-scale coastal shipping along the St. Lawrence River. Of the more than 150 shipyards know to have existed in Quebec from colonial days to 1960, this was the primary location for the construction of schooners. First rigged with sails and later motorized, these wooden craft, designed for river navigation, played a crucial role in the economies of numerous communities along the St. Lawrence."
The Musée Maritime de Charlevoix is also located here. The shipyard is located at the edge of the shore and comprises three boats you can visit, plus an interior museum space.

Notes Claude Monet developed his gorgeous lily ponds at his property in Giverny; he also had a small vegetable garden approximately where the small tree in the foreground of this painting now grows.
