Notes Captain Edward Penniman's house was built 1867-1868 on Fort Hill Road in Eastham. At one point it had a gate formed by whale jaw bones.

Notes Wikipedia: The Neolithic henge monument at Avebury, containing three stone circles, was constructed over several hundred years in the third millennium BCE, during the Neolithic, or New Stone Age. It is one of the best-known prehistoric sites in Britain, containing the largest megalithic stone circle in the world; it is a place of religious importance to contemporary pagans.

1. Trader’s cabin, replica –  From Wikipedia: “replica of the 17th-century Aptucxet Trading Post which was built (in the mid 1600’s) by the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony in order to trade with the Wampanoag Indians and the Dutch.” 

2. Ontario Cottage:  From Wikipedia - “The Ontario Cottage is a style of house that was commonly built in 19th century Ontario, Canada. The Ontario cottage became popular in the 1820s and remained a common style until the end of that century. They were mainly built in rural and small town areas, less so in larger cities. This was the period in which European settlers first populated the interior of the province, and throughout it Ontario Cottages are some of the oldest houses. ...(they were) efficient and easy to build for settlers with limited resources...”

According to Ontario Architecture, “The Ontario Cottage is the vernacular design of the Regency Cottage which generally has a more ornate doorway and a partial or full verandah surrounding it.”  The article goes on to say, “[I]n 1864 the Canada Farmer newspaper promoted the Small Gothic Cottage which was more along the lines of an Ontario Cottage with a hip roof and only one story. Later in the same year, Canada Farmer came out with plans for "A Cheap Farm House". This is the design that became known as the Gothic Revival Cottage.”

3.  Eastern School, on Commercial Street in Provincetown:  one of three schools built around 1844, it was used as a school until 1931, then as a community centre until 1943, then variously as a servicemen’s centre, an American Legion Hall, a cultural centre, and now a non-profit Radio and Art Gallery/Store.

4.  Unitarian Universalist Meeting House – built in Provincetown in 1847, by off-duty seamen and fishermen in the Greek Revival Style, to replace the original church which was built in 1846; the original church was not destroyed but a whole new building was erected.

5.  Captain Edward Penniman’s house built in 1868 in Eastham.  Captain Penniman, a whaling captain, installed a gate made from the jawbones of a sperm whale, later replaced by the jawbones from a humpback whale.  Due to deterioration and safety concerns, the bones have lately been removed.

6.  Until 2002, the Public Library in Provincetown; it is now home to the Tourist Board.

7.  Clock Tower on Provincetown Town Hall, built 1885

8.  Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown, commemorating the first Pilgrim landfall in 1620 and the signing of the Mayflower Compact; built between 1902 and 1910, of pure granite from Maine.
